Project Name Project Description Target Population Anticipated Outcomes Known Outcomes
F99 and F00 cohort leavers Call students on CSTL leavers list. Fall 99 Cohort; Fall 00 Cohort Collect information on why students left to determine if there are any patterns and/or what useful interventions should be developed Students left for a variety of reasons, none of them "THE reason."
Faculty follow-up Have faculty, through the advising process, talk with students about academic and social "fit." Fall 2001 Cohort Collect another perspective, set of information about students at risk. Promote more meaningful advising conversations and enhance students' connections with faculty. Faculty identified students they judged to be at risk.
Parent survey Survey of parents during winter break to identify students possibly at risk for leaving. Contact as many students identified as possible. Where possible, intervene. Fall 2001 Cohort Early identification of students having a variety of issues that may result in their leaving SU. By Fall 2002, we will know how many students who appeared to be fairly high risk for leaving actually did leave (& most likely why) as well as to what extent interventions were successful Not determinable until F2002
Parent survey follow-up Have a conversation with students identified through the parent survey as potentially at risk. Fall 2001 cohort identified by parent survey as at risk Determine in what kinds of situations particular interventions are appropriate and useful Not determinable until F2002; however, several students contacted as a result of the survey did seem to find the conversations helpful.
Enhanced student database Add fields for fall mid-semester progress concern letter, student team evaluations to existing student database. Fall 2001 cohort Ability to analyze who left & see whether there are any predictors Not determinable until F2002
Interview with all students planning to leave Have students who bring in a LOA form make an appointment with Assistant Dean All undergraduates Try to determine the full range of reasons Management students are leaving Syracuse University. Ongoing data collection.
